Who is your king?

When I teach preschoolers the Jesus Jingle, "Christ is Lord of All" to the tune "Row, Row, Row Your Boat", I wear a bright yellow, bejeweled crown. The last line of the jingle states, "Christ Jesus is my king!". We always stop to talk about this concept - that Jesus is our king. I ask the preschoolers if they have a king at their house. Always I hear a big round of, "No's". How about at school? More "No's". The grocery store? Still "No". I explain that when we say Jesus is our king, what we mean is that we've put Jesus in charge of our lives. Preschoolers get it! I know because one sweet little girl told me that Jesus is king in her heart!

Whether we admit to it or not, we all have a king in our lives. Is it the culture? Social media? Consumerism? Ourselves? I struggle daily to place Jesus on that throne as king of my life. Something or someone is sitting on that throne, and if it's not Jesus then what or who is it?

Jesus is talking to all of us when He said, "All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me." (Matthew 28:18)
